Trespassing the Pond

This article saddened me a little as did a recent case in the UK although that also caused a smile. The issue in both cases is the "theft" of wi-fi bandwidth. Unscrupulous thieves pitching up in their cars with wireless lap tops and viciously, uncaringly hooking up to an unsecured wireless network in order to check their email. In the UK case, the criminal in question disguised here nefarious deeds by covering the car windows with cardboard so the light from her PC couldn’t be seen. Clearly, the UK lady should justly be fined for stupidity and, of course, I understand the potential risks with unsecured networks. Yes, it’s wrong but surely it’s more brazen cheek than high crime. It’s a long way from Nicholas Negroponte’s lilly pads.
