Echoes through time: Civilisation is built on the practice of keeping promises

Civilisation is built on the practice of keeping promises. It may not sound a high attainment, but if trust in its observance be shaken the whole structure cracks and sinks. Any constructive effort and all human relations, personal, political and commercial, depend on being able to depend on promises.

B.H.Liddell Hart (1895 – 1970), The After-Fog of War

This insightful quote comes via Michael Wade at Execupundit.

Liddell Hart was a soldier, military historian and theorist. His classic book Strategy was on the reading list for my MBA and a rather yellowing copy is still on my shelf, next to Sun-Tsu and Michael Porter’s Competitive Strategy.
